The Holt Grant - Helping Hinsdale

Geoffrey L. Holt Fund

The Geoffrey L. Holt Fund is a remarkable resource for the Hinsdale community and honors the generosity and lifelong values of Geoffrey L. Holt.

Mr. Holt passed away in 2023. During his lifetime, he worked hard, invested wisely, and lived a modest but happy life. Prior to his passing, Mr. Holt established a trust using the earnings and investments he had accumulated over the years. His generosity has created a lasting legacy that continues to benefit the community.

The Geoffrey L. Holt Fund totaled approximately $3.8million and is overseen by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. The Town cannot borrow from, withdraw from, or otherwise use the principal of the fund. Funding is available only through the established grant process.

Grant Opportunities

The Holt Fund accepts grant applications twice each year, on July 1 and October 1. The Town of Hinsdale, Hinsdale School District, and Hinsdale 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organizations may apply for grants of up to $30,000.

Grant requests must support purposes that fall within the fund's designated areas:

  • Health
  • Recreation
  • Education
  • Community

Over the past several years, the Town and other community organizations have taken advantage of this opportunity to secure funding for projects that benefit Hinsdale residents.

Honoring Geoffrey L. Holt

The Town recognizes that these funds represent much more than a grant opportunity. They are the result of Mr. Holt's years of hard work, careful planning, and generosity toward his community.

For this reason, the Town takes seriously its responsibility to use these funds respectfully and for projects that provide meaningful and lasting benefits to Hinsdale.

One of the Town's current projects that reflects this commitment is the renovation and replacement of the mower shed at Heritage Park. The project is being funded entirely through grants and donated time.

The new building will be dedicated to Geoffrey L. Holt and will include a recognition sign thanking the individuals, organizations, and grantors who contributed to the project.

The new facility will provide bathrooms that will benefit Heritage Park events, sports games, summer band concerts, and other community activities. A new scoreboard will also be installed on the building.

The Geoffrey L. Holt Fund has contributed in total $45,000 toward the Heritage Park project, making it one of the most significant Holt Fund investments in a Town project to date.
